zzap Hires Mark Gammon as Production Director

Halifax, Nova Scotia – May 11, 2021

Zwicker Zareski Architecture + Planning (zzap) is pleased to announce the addition of production director, Mark Gammon, to their leadership team.

Gammon takes on the role of Production Director to manage contract documents and lead the integration of design and planning, particularly with larger scale projects within zzap’s portfolio, including the project at 210 Willett Street a pair of 17-storey buildings at the corner of Dunbrack Street and Willett Street for Hazelview Investments Inc. Mark’s previous experience includes such high-profile projects as the award-winning Halifax Central Library, Cabot Links Lodge and Dalplex.

zzap was founded in 2018 by planner Greg Zwicker and architect Joe Zareski with Justine Bowles and Connor Wallace joining as partners in May 2020. zzap has established a reputation as the primary integrated firm in Atlantic Canada for planning, land development, real estate development and building design. Gammon will be a key liaison between the disciplines to create seamless cohesion as projects develop from concept phase through to the construction phase.

Greg Zwicker states, “We continue to attract respected leaders like Mark. His skillset will be invaluable as we continue to collaborate with developers across the city, region and beyond.”

zzap has developed a consultancy built on the value of an integrated model, where architects and planners come to the table together. Architects understand building and design rules and planners understand the implications. This fusion of the two specialties is in high demand as people re-evaluate the living, working and playing model in residential and commercial spaces.

Gammon comments, “Beyond the reputation of zzap and the quality of their work, I am excited to join a team of this caliber and be part of their vision for creating places that are accessible, smart and inspiring and to connect all the moving parts in the process.”

Joe Zareksi adds, “Certainly our culture and the work environment we create is as important as the projects we conceptualize and build. Having known Mark for over a decade and his contributions in planning and design, he will be an instrumental part of the team.”

In addition to recently beginning work on the Dunbrack and Willett project, zzap is leading other major projects including the redevelopment of the Moffatts Pharmacy site in Downtown Dartmouth for Canal Capital Ltd., the construction of a state-of-the-art student housing development on Seymour Street for Werkliv, and the adaptive reuse of the Dr. James Doull House (c. 1873) on Tower Road for James Sparrow Investments Ltd. At present, the company has twenty employees in roles ranging across both architecture and planning disciplines.
